- The Elephant qualified as one of the four best losers of the competition
Hosts Cote D’Ivoire have made it as one of the best third-placed teams heading into the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ivory Coast will have Morocco to thank after the host narrowly qualified for the knockout stages of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations all thanks to the Atlas Lions’s 1-0 win over Zambia in the last round of group matches.
The Elephant, who qualified as one of the four best losers of the competition, will be thanking mother-luck for granting them another opportunity to still remain at the tournament.
The story won’t have been possible without Morocco’s Hakim Ziyech’s brilliant goal in the 37th minute to the delight of the Ivory Coast supporters, who had storm the stadium to cheer Morocco.
In the other game, DR Congo played out a goalless draw with Tanzania.
The result means, DR Congo join Morocco to zoom into the round of 16 of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Cote D’Ivoire will now face Senegal in the Round of 16.
