- Recall that the speaker was impeached due to gross misconduct, bordering on high handedness, lack of focus and transparency, arrogance and poor leadership style, financial misappropriation and inciting members against themselves.
- Oludaisi Elemide, who represents Odeda Constituency in the Assembly, had been elected as the new speaker.
The impeached Speaker, Hon. Kunle Oluomo, announced on Friday night that he is still the Speaker, adding a new twist to the turmoil roiling the Ogun Assembly.
Due to alleged serious wrongdoing, eighteen members removed Oluomo, the representative for Ifo State Constituency 1, from office on Tuesday. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide was chosen to take his position.
However, Oluomo broke his silence on the impeachment saga, declaring action of the 18 lawmakers “unconstitutional, null, void and of no effect whatsoever.”
The embattled Oluomo, who addressed reporters in his Legislative Quarters residence, Ibara GRA Abeokuta on Friday, informed he has approached the court for adjudication on the matter.
