Recently, the Joint Action Committee of Northern Youth Associations vehemently demanded removing Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Yemi Cardoso. This call stems from the controversial planned relocation of agencies under their supervision.

The committee, in a communiqué released on Thursday and signed by its convener, Murtala Abubakar, Director of Public Communication & Strategy, Hashim Tom Maiyashi, and Director of Gender Mobilization, Latifa Abdussalam, lauded the Northern Senate caucus for their stance. However, they urged lawmakers to actively seek the dismissal of these two appointees of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

While advising against legal action to compel the president to reverse the decision, the committee proposed that lawmakers establish a deadline for President Tinubu to halt the relocation.

The group emphasized the urgency of the situation, characterizing the decisions made by the CBN and FAAN as indicative of the unsuitability of their chief executives to oversee federal institutions. They clarified that their call for removal was not punitive but a crucial step to restore public trust, ensure accountability, and maintain the constitutional integrity of key institutions influencing the nation’s economic and administrative landscape.

Highlighting the importance of competent, transparent, and constitutionally moral decisions, the committee urged representatives in the National Assembly to exercise full legislative oversight. They called for setting a definite deadline for the executive to reconsider the decisions related to the relocation of CBN departments and FAAN headquarters, emphasizing the need for proactive corrective measures.
