- He underscored the importance of shifting back to this legacy to reduce dependence on federal government allocations
Niger State Governor Umar Bago advocates a return to agriculture to tackle insecurity and foster sustainable development in northern Nigeria.
Speaking through his chief press secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, in a Sunday statement from Abuja, Mr. Bago emphasizes the historical prominence of the northern region in agriculture before the oil era.
He underscores the importance of shifting back to this legacy to reduce dependence on federal government allocations.
Additionally, Mr. Bago reveals the state government’s intention to repurpose spaces formerly associated with banditry for agricultural purposes.
He suggested the use of technology and mechanisation to be in tune with the modernisation of agriculture, adding that the government must create an enabling environment for agriculture to thrive.
Mr Bago further said the north needed to sit down and chart a new course on what measures to take to improve the sector.
