Kogi East Leaders Advise Governor Ododo: Don’t Be Yahaya Bello’s Rubber Stamp

Yahaya Bello had deposed four traditional rulers, a move the forum decried as politically motivated and lacking constitutional basis

Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo

Leaders in Kogi East Senatorial District have urged the newly sworn-in Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, not to replicate the policies of his predecessor, Yahaya Bello merely.

Ododo, a protege of former Governor Bello, assumed office on Saturday and promptly announced key appointments, some of whom had served under Bello’s administration.

However, the National Council of Ojuju Agbadufu Igala Forum has cautioned Governor Ododo against being a mere rubber stamp for his predecessor. They urged him to reconsider all the “anti-people’s policies” implemented by the previous administration, including the partial salary payments to state government workers.

Christopher Ukwenya, the forum president, addressing the media in Abuja, also called for the reversal of the dethronement and banishment of certain traditional rulers in the state. Yahaya Bello had deposed four traditional rulers, a move the forum decried as politically motivated and lacking constitutional basis.

“The ill-motivated suspension, deposition, and banishment of traditional rulers in some parts of the state are Philippic political vendettas that have no bearing on our constitutional democracy. We hereby call for a total reversal to the status quo,” stated Ukwenya.

In addition, the forum urged anti-graft agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the administration of former Governor Yahaya Bello. The call reflects a growing demand for accountability and transparency in the governance of the state.
