Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to clear outstanding bills related to services provided by the Air Force.
During a meeting on Monday in Abuja, Abubakar hosted a delegation from INEC, led by Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, stressing the importance of settling overdue bills for enhanced collaboration.
“I seize this opportunity to remind the chairman about outstanding bills awaiting clearance. Settling these bills will enable us to serve you better,” asserted the Air Force chief.
Highlighting the critical role of robust security and well-coordinated logistics in successful elections, Abubakar emphasized the Nigerian Air Force’s consistent support in ensuring security and facilitating the swift transport of electoral materials nationwide.
“We assure you of our continued willingness, ability, and readiness to support INEC, as we have always done in the past,” he added. However, he mentioned ongoing maintenance for C-130 aircraft and suggested using alternative planes for moving sensitive materials, urging early planning due to capacity limitations.
Addressing the upcoming February 3 by-elections across multiple districts and constituencies, Prof. Mahmood, the INEC Chairman, acknowledged the enormity of the task. He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts, including leveraging national assets like the Nigerian Air Force, to ensure the success of this national assignment.
