The House of Representatives has made a resolution to form a committee that will investigate the recurring terrorist attacks in Mangu, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom Local areas of Plateau State.
This decision was reached following a motion of urgent public importance jointly moved by Rep. Ishaya David Lalu and Rep. Dalyop Fom Chollom during Tuesday’s plenary.
In presenting the motion, the lawmakers highlighted an attack on the people of Mangu LGA on January 24, 2024, resulting in the death of more than 50 individuals and serious injuries to others. Additionally, they reported that over 1,000 houses and properties worth billions of naira were destroyed, leading to the displacement of about 20,000 people in various internally displaced persons (IDP) camps within and outside the area.
The legislators emphasized the urgent need to address the continuous terrorist attacks in the mentioned LGA. The House called on the Chief of Defence Staff to establish a civilian joint task force in Plateau state. It mandated the Committees on Defence and Legislative Compliance to ensure compliance. These committees are expected to provide the House with a weekly report until the security situation is controlled.
Nigerian Army kill two terrorists, rescue 20 kidnapped victims in Zamfara
Troops from the Joint Task Force North West Operation Hadarin Daji successfully rescued 20 kidnap victims unharmed and eliminated two terrorists, as reported by the Nigerian Army.
Among the neutralized terrorists was the identified terror group leader, Sainaje, hailing from Katsina State. Sainaje met his demise in a distinct operation carried out in Zamfara State.
A statement signed by Captain Yahaya Ibrahim, Operation Hadarin Daji Information Officer, on Tuesday said, “On the 29th January, 2024 the OPHD troops during its continuous clearance operation at terrorists’ enclaves at Rukudawa, Dumburum, Tsanu, Birnin Tsaba, Magare and Shamushalle general areas of Zurmi and Birnin Magaji LGA of Zamfara state.
“During the operation, all the discovered terrorists’ enclaves, including that of a notorious terrorist kingpin identified as Sule, were destroyed, as the terrorists fled their camps during heavy contact with the aggressive troops.
