Bandits have kidnapped seven residents from Kuduru, a neighbouring community in Bwari Area Council, Abuja. Reports indicate that the criminals are demanding a hefty N290 million ransom for the release of the hostages, which include a pregnant woman and three children. The victims have endured over a month in captivity after being abducted at Kuduru Extension.
A community leader, preferring anonymity, disclosed that the bandits had issued a grave ultimatum, threatening to kill two hostages if the demanded ransom was not paid promptly. Additionally, the abductors have requested essential supplies, including food items, drugs, bed sheets, and cardigans.
“They have reached out to us, demanding N290 million for their release or the threat of harming two of them. Among the captives are a pregnant woman and three children. The bandits insist on bags of rice, packs of noodles, cough syrups, antibiotics, bedsheets, and cardigans. The completion of the N290 million ransom is their condition for releasing our people,” the community leader stated.
In a plea directed at Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun and Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the community leader acknowledged their efforts but implored them to expedite the rescue mission. The hostages are reportedly facing harsh conditions and falling ill due to the unfavourable weather and treatment in captivity.
It appears we will not hear any time soon the last of the deepening security crisis that has plagued Abuja for months on end as armed non-state actors continue to wreak havoc in the beleaguered city.
Barely couple of days after kidnapping two teenage sisters, the gunmen, suspected to be bandits, have now turned their attention to top government official in the FCT.
The rampaging bandits on Thursday morning reportedly kidnapped a director at the Federal Housing Authority in the Federal Capital Territory, Aondo Ver.
It’s gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday at about 12:30 am in Pambara New Extension, Bwari Area Council.
