Enugu Bye-Election: Labour Party Raises Alarm Over Alleged Pre-Written Results

The Labour Party (LP) has cried out over the alleged manipulation and rigging of the Enugu South Urban State Constituency bye-election.

The party said result sheets for the election have been allegedly written before the election started.

A Chieftain of the party, Barrister Lucky Chukwu raised the alarm while addressing journalists on Saturday morning.

He disclosed that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) failed to produce the result sheets.

Chukwu alleged that the electoral commission has already written the results being conducted in eight polling units of the Constituency.

“I have vowed that democracy will survive. In Enugu South, at about midnight election results were carted away. The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Chukwuemeka Chukwu and the police carted away the result sheets. The results have already been written.

“BVAS must be used, the Electoral Officer, Francis Chigbo refuses to show the electorates the results sheets, results must be uploaded in IREV and I challenge INEC to do that.

“The REC has made himself invisible and inaccessible for him to achieve what he promised the government. I’m telling the security agencies to tell INEC not to cause problems,” Chukwu said.

Within Nigeria had reported that no fewer than four million Nigerians were expected to go to the polls, in the re-run and bye-elections to fill 48 legislative seats across 26 states of the country.

The INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, had however assured of credible exercises and tasked all stakeholders on support to ensure violence-free polls.

The affected states are Ebonyi, Yobe, Kebbi, Lagos, Ondo, Taraba, Benue, Borno, Kaduna, Plateau, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Cross River, Delta, Enugu, Jigawa, Katsina, Adamawa, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Kano, Nasarawa, Niger, Oyo, Sokoto, and Zamfara
