- Plateau state Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr. Oliver Agundu has announced that the rescheduled election will commence today at 9:30am.
- The REC, stated that an investigation had been launched by the commission to unravel the cause of the ballot papers shortage in the affected polling units.
In the Jos North and Bassa Federal Constituency, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct a new election in 16 polling places this morning, Sunday, February 4.
In a statement released early on Sunday, Oliver Adungu said that the commission had found that ballots for sixteen polling places in the federal constituency of Jos North/Bassa had vanished.
According to him, the security authorities have been tasked with looking into the case.
He said: “Determined that voters in the affected Polling units were not disenfranchised, the Commission convened a stakeholders meeting to explain the situation and discuss the way forward.
“It was resolved that the Commission should remobilize and conduct the election in the affected Polling units on Sunday morning, 4th February 2024, to conclude the process in the Federal Constituency
“To allow for the reconfiguration of the BVAS devices and other logistics arrangements, stakeholders agreed that voting would commence at 9:30 am and end at 3:30 pm.
“As usual, all voters in the queue before 3:30 will be allowed to vote. We appeal to all eligible voters in the Constituency to come out and cast their votes peacefully for the candidates of their choice.
“For Emphasis, this arrangement only affects registered voters in the 16 polling units in the Federal Constituency. It does not affect registered voters in the Jos North Senatorial District.”
