Gunmen suspected of being Boko Haram fighters killed two construction workers and kidnapped three grasshopper hunters in Kukareta village on the Maiduguri Road in Yobe State’s Damaturu Local Government Area.
The terrorists attacked the town on Sunday around 3:00 a.m., shooting sporadically for about an hour before kidnapping three people who had come to the town to hunt grasshoppers.
Alhaji Lawan Babagana, the town’s district head, told a Daily Trust reporter over the phone that the terrorists razed his house and 504 Peugeot car, killed two people, and kidnapped three others he was hosting.
“They stormed the town around 3 am on Sunday shooting sporadically, they set my house on fire, razed my 504 Peugeot car, and also destroyed one house in the town.
“There were five people in my house who I was hosting; two of them were construction workers brought by the Northeast Development Commission from Adamawa, for the construction of Kukareta Market.
“As you know, as a traditional ruler, I used to host people that came to my domain. These boys (Boko Haram fighters) brought these (workers) out of my house and shot them instantly.
“There are three grasshopper hunters, who I was hosting in my house. They (terrorists) handcuffed and kidnapped the hunters in the vehicle of vigilantes, which was parked at my house.
“The police operatives have evacuated the remains of the construction workers and taken them to a specialist hospital in Damaturu,” he added.
