Gunmen kill three soldiers, two vigilantes in Nasarawa

Armed non-state actors wreaking havoc in Nigeria’s middle belt have struck again in Nasarawa State.

No fewer than three soldiers and two members of a vigilante group have lost their lives in a deadly attack reportedly launched by a militia group terrorizing parts of the State.

The incident happened in the Katakpa community of Toto local government area of the state where the assailants ambushed the soldiers.

Chairman of the LGA, Abdullahi Tashas, and the state lawmaker representing Ugya-Umaisha constituency, Ibrahim Saad, confirmed the development to AIT.

According to them, the soldiers were on a peace mission to the restive and beleaguered Katakpa area when they were unfortunately grisly murdered.

They explained that the soldiers were deployed to ensure peace in the area following frequent attacks on Toto communities by the militia group when they were allegedly ambushed and killed by the same Bassa militia.

According to reports, Bassa and Egbira communities in the Toto LGA have been engaged in violent boundary dispute and efforts by the state government to end the boundary-induced brutal fratricidal clashes have not yielded any positive result.

The Nigerian army is yet to react to the incident as of the time of filing this report
