- Dikko recounts Nwabali’s selection for the NPFL Allstar team and his recognition by Enyimba FC’s Sporting Director, Jude Anyadufu
Shehu Dikko, former chairman of the defunct League Management Company (LMC), disclosed that Stanley Nwabali, the top goalkeeper for the Super Eagles, has long been a target for the national team.
In a post on his verified X handle (formerly Twitter), Dikko praised Nwabali’s goalkeeping prowess, highlighting his selection for the NPFL Allstar team in 2022.
“Nwabali has always been on the radar of the National team. I recall in June 2019 during the NPFL Super Six in Lagos, when he was with Enyimba FC, we invited Gernot Rohr to watch him as a potential successor/competitor to Uzoho,” Dikko shared.
He recounted an incident where Nwabali’s club general manager inadvertently informed him of Rohr’s presence, causing the young keeper to feel nervous. Despite this, Dikko emphasized Nwabali’s talent, noting his inclusion in the NPFL Allstar team for the Budweiser match with John Terry and Roberto Carlos and the home-based Super Eagles match against Mexico in the USA in 2022.
Dikko expressed faith in Nwabali’s destiny, attributing his rise to greatness to the keen eye of Mr. Jude Anyadufu, the Sporting Director of Enyimba FC. Despite Nwabali’s relegation from Go-Round FC in 2018, Anyadufu recognized his potential and signed him for Enyimba FC, where he initially served as the third-choice goalkeeper before making his mark.
“May God bless Mr. Jude Anyadufu, the Sporting Director of Enyimba FC,” Dikko remarked, concluding that Nwabali’s journey from obscurity to success exemplifies the talent present in domestic football.
