- Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest person, visited Kano State, met with Governor Yusuf, and pledged support for social and economic development initiatives
- Dangote, a native of Kano, emphasized cooperation with the government, promised assistance in health, education, and empowerment sectors, and ongoing projects
Aliko Dangote, Africa’s wealthiest individual, visited Kano State on Friday amidst the escalating prices of essential goods.
The industrialist and President of the Dangote Group arrived at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) at 11 am, where Chief of Staff warmly received him to the Governor, Shehu Sagagi, and other top government officials.
Dangote, a native of Kano, engaged in closed-door meetings with Governor Abba Yusuf, key government officials, and other stakeholders in the state.
This visit comes in the wake of the state government’s recent concern over the deepening hunger and poverty in Kano due to the harsh economic conditions.
In a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, it was disclosed that Dangote pledged support for the Kano government’s social policies and human development initiatives to alleviate economic hardships in the state.
Acknowledging the severe economic challenges faced by ordinary citizens, Dangote promised to assist the government in enhancing the health and education sectors and empowering the less privileged in the state.
“We are here first to congratulate you, Governor Yusuf, on your victory at the Supreme Court. I want to assure you of our support throughout your administration, not just for four years but eight years,” Dangote expressed.
“Kano is home; even though I am recognized as the richest black man, you can consider me a Kano indigene. I am at your service, and you can always count on my cooperation to develop Kano,” he added.
Governor Yusuf, in response, appealed for Dangote’s support in establishing an independent power plant in the state and emphasized the need for a sickle cell hospital to provide free medication for patients.
He also urged the business mogul to complete the ongoing projects initiated by the Dangote Foundation, including the Accident and Emergency ward, Surgical and Theatre complex, and maternity/pediatric building at Murtala Muhamnad Specialists Hospital.
“I am appealing to you to extend your assistance by completing the ongoing projects initiated by your foundation for the benefit of the people of the state,” Governor Yusuf implored.
