A popular legal practitioner, Victor Onwubiko, has been murdered by gunmen in Nigeria’s south east state of Imo.
Onwubiko, though based in Imo State resided in Uturu, Abia State, was killed on Saturday.
He was reportedly killed while returning to Abia State University, Uturu, where he lived.
Henry Okoye, the Imo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the tragic incident.
He said law enforcement agents are “on top of the situation” and that a press statement would be issued soon by the command.
Meanwhile, a source said the tragic event occurred along the Okigwe-Uturu road around 9 pm on Saturday.
“He was returning to Abia State, where he also resides, when he was ambushed by gunmen and killed along the Okigwe-Uturu road. There have been a series of kidnappings and killings along the road, irrespective of the presence of heavy security agents in the area,” Daily Post quoted the source as saying.
