The Federal Government (FG) has reiterated its commitment to fulfilling its obligations regarding the N35,000 wage award, assuring workers that payments will resume promptly.
Following a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, urged the labour centres to reconsider their strike notice issued over alleged non-implementation of agreements reached last year.
Addressing the gathering, Onyejeocha emphasized the government’s dedication to completing the implementation of the agreements, acknowledging the urgency of the matter and the importance of dialogue in resolving issues.
While acknowledging the concerns raised by the labour organizations, Onyejeocha explained that some aspects of the agreements require phased implementation, stressing President Bola’s commitment to fulfilling the terms of the agreement.
NLC President, Joe Ajaero, urged the FG to adhere to the 14-day ultimatum, emphasizing the need for timely implementation of agreements for the benefit of Nigerians.
Ajaero affirmed the labour’s resolution to stand by their ultimatum and urged all parties to fulfill their obligations. He reiterated the Congress’s commitment to honoring agreements as long as the FG reciprocates.
The reassurance from the FG comes amid escalating tensions between the government and labour unions, highlighting the importance of constructive dialogue and timely implementation of agreements to avert potential disruptions.
