Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti pensioners have expressed appreciation to Governor Biodun Oyebanji for raising the university’s monthly subvention from N260m to N410m.
They urge the school management to prioritize their welfare by ensuring prompt payment of gratuities and pensions.
The Chairman, Nigerian Universities Pensioners Association, EKSU Chapter, Chief Samuel Akinwale, said, “The increase in subvention will ease the workload of expenses placed on the university and help the management to pay pensioners and staff their dues as at when due”.
Akinwale, who spoke in a statement made available in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, by EKSU NUPA Public Relations Officer, Chief Ajibade Olubunmi, after the association’s monthly meeting, also pleaded with the governor to further support the university to be able to defray all the outstanding arrears of gratuities of pensioners.
Akinwale said, “The increase in subvention is commendable as it came at a time when pensioners of the university were groaning under irregular payment of pensions coupled with the poor economic situation in the country”.
Akinwale urged EKSU management “to make the plight of pensioners a priority by paying our gratuities and pensions promptly.”
