- Gowon arrived at the forecourt of the President’s office at minutes past 2pm where Tinubu personally received him.
- Gowon, Nigeria’s Head of State from August 1966 to July 1975, currently serves in the Council of State.
General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd), the former head of state, is currently having a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Since President Tinubu took office in May of last year, these two men have not met before. A meeting is under underway.
It’s unclear why President Tinubu and the former head of state would meet, but it’s thought they will talk about how to address the nation’s security and economic issues.
WITHIN NIGERIA recalls General Gowon led Nigeria through the challenging period of the Nigerian Civil War and a portion of the post-Civil War period.
He has also featured in efforts at stabilizing the nation over the years, organising stakeholders in peace efforts over the years.
