President Bola Tinubu has commemorated the life of the late Rotimi Akeredolu, former Governor of Ondo State, lauding him as a “fearless soldier” and a steadfast champion for the people of the state.

Speaking at the funeral service held at St. Andrews Church, Imola in Owo, Tinubu hailed Akeredolu’s unwavering courage and commitment to serving the state despite his recent passing on December 27 at the age of 67 due to prostate cancer.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu extolled Akeredolu’s legacy of national service, emphasizing the enduring impact of his leadership and the choices he made throughout his life.

“We gather here today, reminded of life’s transient nature, yet inspired by the enduring legacy of our dear brother, Rotimi Akeredolu. His journey, from a distinguished legal career to his pivotal role as Governor of Ondo State, reflects a steadfast commitment to truth and service,” Tinubu remarked.

Tinubu acknowledged Akeredolu’s intellectual prowess and unwavering dedication to his convictions, noting that he remained resolute in his advocacy for the betterment of society.

“In every facet of his life, Akeredolu epitomized integrity and unwavering determination. His legacy will endure as a beacon of hope and inspiration for generations,” Tinubu affirmed.

The President urged Nigerians to cherish Akeredolu’s memory and his indelible mark on the state, underscoring the importance of reflecting on his contributions to humanity.

In his sermon, Primate Henry Ndukuba of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion urged Tinubu to address the prevailing hardships faced by Nigerians, emphasizing the urgency of taking action to alleviate the suffering of the masses.

Ndukuba implored Tinubu to fulfil his promise of renewed hope and swiftly implement solutions to the nation’s challenges, including insecurity, hunger, and economic instability.

“The time for action is now. The Nigerian people await the fulfilment of your promises and alleviating their suffering,” Ndukuba urged Tinubu.

The funeral service, attended by several dignitaries, including governors and former governors from various states, was a solemn tribute to Akeredolu’s remarkable life and legacy.
