- Gov Alia stated that her appointments aimed to re-inject vibrancy into the local government administration.
- Gov Alia warned council chairmen against resource mismanagement and encouraged them to implement necessary changes in their respective council areas.
Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia on Saturday inaugurated three caretaker committee Chairmen to replace those recently sacked by the House of Assembly.
Gov Alia called on them to justify the confidence reposed in them by being accountable and transparent while carrying out their responsibilities.
The newly sworn-in caretaker committee Chairmen are: Hon Verlumun Avar, Gboko LGA, Hon Victor Iorzaa, Ukum LGA and Hon. Justin Shaku, Katsina Ala LGA.
It will be recalled that three former council chairmen were removed by the Benue State House of Assembly on grounds of mismanagement and appropriation of local government Internally Generated Revenue.
Gov Alia said with their appointments, they were to re-inject vibrancy in the local government administration.
He added that local government being the third tier of government was critical to the operation of his administration since it plays a major role in the provision of social services to the people.
Gov Alia, who cautioned the council chairmen against mismanagement of resources, admonished them to provide the needed change in their respective council areas.
“Your predecessors were disengaged because of their lack of commitment, lack of dedication, lack of responsibility, accountability and transparency,” he said.
Responding on behalf of the newly sworn-in caretaker chairmen, Hon Justin Shaku of Katsina Ala LGA expressed appreciation to the Governor for the opportunity given them to serve.
