Four persons suspected to be behind the murder of Mr Silas Onyima, a community leader in Anambra state, have been apprehended.
The suspects were arrested by the police in a joint operation with community vigilante operatives
Within Nigeria had reported that some assailants stormed Onyima’s residence in Idemili North last Saturday and shot him dead.
Onyima until his murder was the President General of Umuoji community in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
However, the police in a press release by the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said four persons have been apprehended in connection to the murder.
He disclosed that personal effects of Onyima were retrieved from the suspects.
He said: “The handset and ATM Card of the deceased were recovered from them. In their confession, they named four other accomplices who are now being hunted for by the Police.”
He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye commended the Police in Ogidi and Umuoji Vigilante for working together to apprehend the suspected perpetrators, and has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to deploy its Forensic Team to take over the investigation.
The command assured Presidents-General across the State that their safety was of primary concern to the Police as they represent their people in governance by their town unions.
