In Lagos State, one Abolaji Ismahil, a landlord, has been arraigned for allegedly removing the roofing sheets of his tenant’s apartment.
The 51-year-old accused was arraigned on Tuesday before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecution charged Ismahil, who lives in Mushin area of Lagos, with conspiracy, breach of public peace and theft.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution counsel, Insp Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that Ismahil and some others, at large, committed the offence on Dec.13, 2023, at No 40, Kekereowo St., Itire, Surulere Lagos.
He alleged that Ismahil removed ten zinc roofing sheets from the apartment of the complainant, Lawal Ismail.
Ekhueorohan also alleged that Ismahil destroyed the roofing material, after several attempts to get the complainant to pay his rent.
He submitted that the complainant also reported his HP laptops, a gold chain, and two wristwatches were stolen from his apartment.
The offence, he said, contravened sections 168, 287 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate, Mr Ganiyu Tiamiyu, admitted Ismahil to bail in the sum of N100,000, with two responsible sureties in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties must have their addresses verified by the court and adjourned the case until March 13, for mention. (NAN)
