Operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, have arrested a couple, an ex-military personnel and a printer, who allegedly specialise in producing fake currencies.
Following the arrest of the printer, the couple and the ex-soldier were taken into custody, according to Tunni Ayuba, the police zonal spokesperson, who also staged the suspects.
On February 3, Ayuba claimed, the printer’s refuge on Lagos Island was raided by agents, leading to his detention.
“Based on intelligence report duly approved by the AIG, zone 2 command, the O/C monitoring unit, CSP Tijani Taofiq, detailed DSP Adeyemi and his team to discretely investigate,” NAN quoted the spokesperson as saying.
Ayuba added that operatives seized a printing machine allegedly used by the printer in printing security threads on counterfeit currencies and recovered 300 million CFA and N9 million, suspected to be counterfeit.
She said the suspects have confessed to various roles in the alleged crime noting that the printer admitted to having been in currency counterfeiting for over three years.
“His confession led to the arrest of the couple, who are partners in the crime,” she said.
She noted that efforts are being intensified to apprehend fleeing members of the syndicate.
