Following the takeover of the party secretariat by anti-riot police officers on Friday, the crisis within the All Progress Congress (APC) in Benue took a concerning turn.
The Civil Defence Corps and Live Stock Guards, along with a contingent of regular and mobile police officers, seized control of the gates at 7 am and severely blocked the roadways leading to the secretariat.
To block all routes leading to the secretariat, they utilized their operational cars.
The State Executive Council (SEC) meeting and the APC stakeholders meeting, which were scheduled to take place today, were also called off by the Police Command. The meeting was conducted by Comrade Austin Agada.
In a letter addressed to the APC chairman Comrade Austin Agada, the Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina declared: ” The State Executive Council meeting and all kinds of political meeting be suspended till further notice.”
The letter signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police ( DCP) Samuel Gimba said the SEC meeting must be suspended based on a directive from Governor Hyacinth Alia suspending all forms of political meetings and gathering in the state.
The decision, according to police, is due to volatile security atmosphere in Benue .
