Authorities in the Kano Municipal Local Government Council of Kano State have officially acknowledged a measles outbreak in certain areas within the local government jurisdiction.
Alhaji Aliyu Jinjiri Kiru, the Primary Health Care Coordinator for the area, made this revelation during a session of the Emergency Preparedness Response Committee held at the local government secretariat.
According to a statement released by the information officer of the area, Fatima Abdullahi, the coordinator reported receiving numerous reports of measles cases along with other infectious diseases from various health facilities in the Municipal Local Government Area. The suspected affected areas include Sharada, Madatai, and Gandun Albasa.
Emphasizing the situation’s urgency, the coordinator called for immediate action to contain the spread of the disease.
Tukur Hassan, the officer responsible for disease control, confirmed that the reported cases have been referred to Murtala Special Hospital for isolation and treatment.
Alhaji Yusuf Nabahani, the district head of Municipal, urged village and ward leaders to prioritize public health, recognizing its critical importance in safeguarding the community’s well-being.
