- Kano State government seeks to reinstate resigned Commandant-General of Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, amid reported reconciliatory efforts
- Delegation dispatched to reconcile with Daurawa includes respected Islamic clerics and officials sent by the government for discussions
The Kano State government is reportedly taking steps to reinstate the resigned Commandant-General of the State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, who stepped down on Friday.
According to sources, the state Council of Ulama, a delegation of respected Islamic clerics, has been dispatched to meet with Daurawa to reconcile with him.
Additionally, it was reported that the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Falgore, and the Chief Imam of the National Mosque, Abuja, Sheikh Ibrahim Maqari, were sent by the government to discuss with him.
Daurawa had resigned in the presence of the Speaker and other members of the State Assembly.
However, the meeting outcome with Daurawa has yet to be confirmed.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano had criticized the approach of ‘Operation Kau Da Badala,’ an initiative of the board aimed at combating immorality in the state.
Daurawa’s resignation, less than 24 hours after the governor’s criticism, had elicited various reactions and criticisms from the public.
Sources close to the government indicated that the governor is deeply troubled by the situation.
“The governor is seriously concerned. The damage has been done,” the source stated.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commander-General (DCG) of the Kano Hisbah, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, along with other board officials, had recently met with the Governor.
Efforts to reach the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, were unsuccessful as calls made to him went unanswered. Additionally, a text message sent to him was not replied to as of the time of filing this report.
