The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a forecast indicating hazy and thundery weather conditions across Nigeria from Sunday to Tuesday.
During this period, NiMet predicts dust haze over the Northern region, accompanied by the possibility of thunderstorms in parts of Taraba and Kaduna states during the afternoon and evening.
In the North Central region, a sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds is expected, along with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, in the afternoon and evening.
NiMet further forecasts cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine over inland states and coastal cities of the South. Morning thunderstorms are expected over parts of Lagos state, with thunderstorms later in the day over several other states, including Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Edo, Abia, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River.
On Monday, NiMet anticipates sunny skies and a hazy atmosphere over the Northern region. At the same time, the North Central cities are expected to experience a sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds throughout the day, with a chance of few thunderstorms over parts of Niger, Kwara, Kogi, and Benue.
For the inland states and coastal cities of the South, a cloudy atmosphere with spells of sunshine is predicted during the morning hours, with thunderstorms expected over several states later in the day.
On Tuesday, NiMet expects cloudy skies with sunshine intervals over the Northern region, with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Gombe, Kebbi, Kaduna, and Taraba during the afternoon and evening. In the North Central cities, a sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds is anticipated, along with chances of thunderstorms over most places during the afternoon and evening.
Cloudy atmosphere with spells of sunshine are expected over the inland states and coastal cities of the South during the morning hours, with thunderstorms anticipated over most places during the afternoon and evening period.
NiMet advises the public to take adequate precautions as strong winds may precede rain in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur. It emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated, particularly in the North, where temperatures remain high.
