FCT Minister: Abuja Warehouse Looting Beyond Hunger, Criminal Act

FCT minister expressed disappointment with the behaviour of the youths in the area

Abuja Warehouse Looting

Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has stated that the looting of a warehouse in Gwagwa-Tasha area of the nation’s capital goes beyond hunger and constitutes a criminal act.

The minister made this assertion following her assessment visit to Gwagwa-Tasha to evaluate the extent of damage to the warehouse.

Expressing dismay over the situation, Mahmoud described the incident as unfortunate, noting that the hoodlums had plundered all the grains and other food items, showing no mercy even to the roofs and fence.

She expressed disappointment with the behaviour of the youths in the area. Still, she assured the Administration would enhance security, including establishing police posts in all government warehouses across the territory.

“We are here due to the unfortunate incident that occurred in the early hours of yesterday, where hoodlums attacked this warehouse and looted everything, including non-food items.

“Not only were the food items taken, but the roofing, windows, gates, and offices were also vandalized. The level of destruction is evident. There is nothing left here, even the machinery used for processing these items,” she remarked.

Mahmoud noted that the incident occurred as the administration restocked the warehouse to comply with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to distribute palliatives to all six area councils in the FCT.
