Ebonyi Court Remands Two Men For Allegedly ‘Killing Police Corporal’

The plea of the defendants was not taken.

  • The prosecutor opposed the bail application and urged the court to remand the defendants in a correctional centre. 
  • Ojemba Isu-Oko, the chief magistrate rejected the bail application and remanded the defendants in a correctional centre. 

A magistrate court has ordered the remand of two men, Anthony Odeh and Amadi Chibuike, at the Nigeria Correctional Centre in Abakaliki, the state capital, over alleged conspiracy and murder.

The offences were committed on 10th of February at Ohaukwu LGA in Ebonyi.

Odeh, a 40-year-old and Chibuike, a 34-year-old man allegedly killed a police corporal.

Bassey Okon, the prosecutor said that Odey conspired with Chibuike and others are now at large and shot to death, Emeka Kelvin, a serving police corporal whose force number is: F/No 518032.

The prosecutor said that the offences were punishable under section 319 (1) of the criminal Code cap.33, vol. 1 laws of the state.

The plea of the defendants was not taken.

MC. O Okpere, counsel to the defendants prayed the court to grant them bail.

The prosecutor opposed the bail application and urged the court to remand the defendants in a correctional centre.

Ojemba Isu-Oko, the chief magistrate rejected the bail application and remanded the defendants in a correctional centre.

Isu-Oko said the case file and exhibits should be sent to the Department of Public Prosecution for legal advice, and the matter was adjourned until April 5.
