Aminu Daurawa, the Commander General of Kano Hisbah, has issued a two-week ultimatum for individuals engaged in “immoral activities” to either repent or leave the state.

Daurawa, speaking to BBC Hausa, revealed that any disagreements had been resolved after a meeting with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

He subsequently met with the governor after intervention by certain figures to appease the Sheikh.

During his BBC interview, Daurawa stated, “Our mission to maintain Kano’s moral standards remains steadfast. The Governor has assured us of his continued support and commitment to bolster our operations.”

“After constructive discussions, the Governor declined my resignation and urged me to continue my leadership role in Hisbah. We have cleared up any misunderstandings, and I am honoured to continue serving as the Commander General.”

“The recent discord has only strengthened our resolve; we are determined to redouble our efforts to achieve our objectives.”

“Therefore, those promoting immorality in Kano must either repent or vacate the city. Hisbah has granted them a grace period of two weeks to repent. We have even prepared ‘Na tuba’ forms for them to fill out. We will provide them with capital and offer training in various businesses. Those unwilling to repent should leave Kano because it does not tolerate immorality.”

The Commander General also outlined plans to enhance Hisbah’s operations: “We are dedicated to continuous improvement. We will enhance staff training and establish a specialized Hisbah Training School, offering diplomas, NCE qualifications, and even degrees in Hisbah activities.”

“To further strengthen our operations and ensure adherence to the law, we will establish new departments, including Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and a Legal department.”
