Varsity Undergraduate Jailed For Malpractice, Impersonation During 2023 UTME

This is development is coming one month after a CBT centre owner was sentenced to jail for an act of infraction.


During the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), an Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba undergraduate was found guilty of impersonation and examination malpractice by a Federal High Court located in Akure.

Adesuyi Feranmi was found guilty on two counts of conspiracy and examination impersonation by the presiding judge, Honorable Justice T. B. Adegoke, in a ruling that was given on March 5.

The owner of a Computer Based Test (CBT) center was sentenced to prison for an offense connected to breaching of data, an act of infraction by an Abuja Grade “A” court only a month prior.

Hon. Justice T. B. Adegoke convicted the defendant to one year imprisonment on count one and also convicted him on count two to one-year imprisonment.

According to the court, the conviction would run concurrently. He was, however, given the option of a fine of $100,000.00 on count one and another option of a fine of $100,000.00 on count two, bringing the total fine to 200,000.

Adesuyi, a 29-year-old, was apprehended on April 28th, 2023, at the Amable Nig Ltd. CBT centre in Owo during the 2023 UTME in Ondo State while impersonating Sanusi Tunde at the point of the biometric verification exercise.

Following conflicting and mismatched data, testimonials, and confessions, he was handed over to a security operative for further investigation and, consequently, his arraignment.

The charge list said Adesuyi committed an offence of examination malpractice and felony contrary to section 10 of the malpractices Act, Cap E15, LFN 2004 and punishable under section 3(2)(c) of Examination Malpractice Act, Cap E15 Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
