- The renowned Islamic scholar was allegedly killed by operatives of the state’s security outfit, Community Protection Guards, CPG
Ten persons suspected to be involved in the murder of an Islamic scholar, Sheikh Abubakar Hassan Mada, have been apprehended, the Zamfara state govt has disclosed.
The renowned Islamic scholar was allegedly killed by operatives of the state’s security outfit, Community Protection Guards, CPG.
The incident was said to have happened when operatives of the CPG reportedly stormed Sheik Mada’s residence and whisked him to an unknown destination for interrogation over the security crisis in the state.
However, a statement issued on Wednesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, disclosed that some persons have been arrested in connection to the incident.
He, however, said the suspects arrested were not members of the CPG.
According to the statement, preliminary investigation revealed that they are members of an outlawed vigilante group.
“Based on the preliminary investigation conducted by the police, it has been discovered that one of the vigilantes who was arrested was a former student of the murdered Sheikh.
“This information can help the authorities better understand the situation and take appropriate actions,” the statement added
