Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, extended his congratulations to women worldwide on the 2024 International Women’s Day, emphasizing that neglecting to invest in them hampers development progress.
In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio commended the resilience of Nigerian women, acknowledging their steadfastness and perseverance in the face of daily challenges, portraying them as hardworking and determined individuals.
Akpabio underscored the significance of this year’s theme, “Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress,” asserting that any nation’s prosperity hinges on empowerment and investment in its women. He echoed the popular sentiment that “training a woman is tantamount to training a nation.”
The Senate President reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly under his leadership to advocate for the enhanced well-being of women. He stressed, “We are acutely aware that neglecting to invest in women stifles development and undermines the nation’s integrity.”
Akpabio endorsed the 2024 International Women’s Day campaign theme, “Inspire Inclusion,” aligning with the 10th Senate’s objectives to enact legislation aimed at bolstering girl-child education, combating sexual exploitation, and upholding women’s rights.
“On this auspicious occasion of International Women’s Day, I proudly salute our women—mothers and sisters. I extend heartfelt wishes for a peaceful and fruitful celebration on behalf of my family, constituents, the Senate, and the National Assembly of Nigeria. I want to express my profound appreciation; you are exceptional,” Akpabio concluded.
