- NSCDC Commandant cautions recruits against accidental discharge, emphasizing diligence, professionalism, and adherence to rules of engagement in arms handling
- Recruits reminded of responsibility to uphold human rights, maintain humility, and refrain from using uniform and weapons to intimidate citizens
The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Olusola Odumosu, cautioned personnel against accidental discharge during a passing out parade for 532 recruits of the 2022/2023 batch in Abuja.
Odumosu emphasized the need for diligence, professionalism, and caution in arms handling among the new personnel. He underscored the absence of room for accidental discharge within the NSCDC and stressed the importance of adhering to rules of engagement at all times.
Addressing the recruits, Odumosu highlighted the significance of upholding fundamental human rights and maintaining humility and integrity in service delivery. He urged them to refrain from using their uniform and weapons to intimidate or harass citizens.
He said, “In NSCDC there is nothing like accidental discharge. Once you find yourself holding a weapon, rules of engagement must continually sound in your head, and your rifle must be as safe as you want it to be.
“You have been trained in weapons handling. This is one aspect of your job that you must approach with utmost caution.
“Respect the fundamental human rights of all Nigerians and be guarded by our watchword humility and integrity in service delivery.
“Note also that you are expected to maintain high discipline, professionalism, and competence when discharging your duties. Your uniform and weapon must not be used to intimidate or harass any citizens,” the commandant warned.
