At least five persons lost their lives in a fatal road on Saturday in Nigeria’s south west State of Ondo.

Seven other travellers also sustained varying degrees of injuries in the lone accident that occurred along the busy Ore/Lagos expressway.

The vehicle, a Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number FKG 405 FX, reportedly lost control and veered into the bush.

The incident happened at the Akinfosile axis of Okitipupa Local Council Area of the State while the ill-fated bus was en route Lagos State from Akure.

According to a source, the vehicle was travelling at high speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle before it plunged into the bush.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the incident.

He disclosed that the accident occurred around 4:30 p.m..

The PPRO in the state called on those whose relatives travelled from Akure to Lagos earlier on Saturday to reach out to them to ascertain their status.

She stated that the remains of the deceased travellers had been deposited at the morgue while the injured passengers were moved to a private hospital for treatment.

“Investigation is going on to unravel the cause of the accident, while effort is on to contact the families of the passengers involved in the accident.

“Meanwhile, members of the public are advised to reach out to their relatives who left for Lagos from Akure this morning to check on them to ascertain their status, and those in doubt of the whereabouts of their families should reach out to the police at Igbotako Division through this phone number, 07033285708, for more information.”
