In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt, Gbara conveyed that most Rivers residents were weary of the political turmoil and yearned for peace. He emphasized the desire for Governor Siminialaye Fubara to be allowed to govern effectively without undue distractions.
Gbara lauded the governor’s resilience in maintaining focus and delivering impactful policies and projects despite challenges, noting Fubara’s commitment to improving lives and building capacity.
He highlighted recent gestures of support for Governor Fubara, including the resignation and declaration of loyalty by a councillor representing the ward of the former governor and Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike. Gbara anticipated further expressions of support for the governor from various political quarters, including members of the State House of Assembly.
Regarding local government elections, Gbara affirmed the party’s readiness to support Governor Fubara’s decisions. He clarified that the governor, as the party’s leader in the state, would determine the timing of the elections, with the party remaining neutral in its stance.
Attributing the political crises to personal interests, Gbara urged the populace, particularly the youth, to unite behind Governor Fubara, recognizing his patriotic leadership and inclusive governance approach.
The PDP’s reassurances signal a hopeful path towards peace and stability in Rivers State as efforts continue to navigate the political challenges confronting the region.
