- Bamidele emerged as chairman of the forum in the 9th Senate.
- Abiru, has promised that the forum would serve as a cohesive tool to foster healthy discussions and analysis of national issues, and work with the Northern Senators Forum to advance the country’s fortunes.
Merely twenty-four hours following a riveting plenary that resulted in the removal of Northern Senators Forum Chairman Senator Abdul Ningi, Southern Senators have revived their forum and elected Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, who represents Lagos East, to the position of Chairman.
Nine months after the 10th Senate’s formation, Abiru, a representative from Anambra, takes over as Senate Leader in place of Senator Opeyemi Bamidele. He also becomes the Vice Chairman as well.
Abiru served as chairman of the executive committee that selected six of the 51 senators representing 17 southern states who convened on Wednesday to resurrect the forum.
Bamidele noted that like the northern forum, the southern forum is not new but has been in existence since the 9th Senate, explaining that he was unable to provide the required leadership because of his new role as the Senate Majority Leader.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed leader of the forum, Abiru, has promised that the forum would serve as a cohesive tool to foster healthy discussions and analysis of national issues, and work with the Northern Senators Forum to advance the country’s fortunes.
