- Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone and defender Axel Witsel express optimism about Antoine Griezmann’s return propelling the team forward
- Griezmann’s ankle injury sidelined him for four matches, but his return to training offers hope for Atletico’s Champions League prospects
Diego Simeone, the coach of Atletico Madrid, along with defender Axel Witsel, expressed their optimism on Tuesday regarding Antoine Griezmann’s comeback, hoping it could propel the team into the Champions League quarterfinals.
The French forward sustained an ankle sprain during the 1-0 first-leg defeat against Inter Milan in February, causing him to miss the subsequent four matches across various competitions. During this period, Atletico managed only one victory.
As Griezmann returns to training ahead of the Champions league second leg at the Metropolitano stadium in the Spanish capital on Wednesday, there’s a possibility of him starting.
“Griezmann adds significant strength to the team… he’s a pivotal player, and we’re thrilled to have him back,” stated Witsel during a press briefing.
