No ransom will be paid to rescue abducted children – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has said that no ransom will be paid for the rescue of the children abducted from Kuriga in Kaduna State.

Today, the President conveyed these sentiments during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Following the FEC session, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammad Idris, briefed State House Correspondents, stating that President Tinubu reiterated his directive to the defense forces to rescue and safely return the abducted children to their homes.

The President also emphatically opposed the payment of ransom to kidnappers, expressing the administration’s commitment to combating kidnapping and other criminal activities in the country. Idris emphasized that the current government will not tolerate kidnapping, especially mass abductions.

Recall that the Kaduna State Government, through the State Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Sule Shu’aibu, pledged to prosecute the perpetrators responsible for abducting over 200 school children in Kuriga community last week.

Shu’aibu emphasized this commitment during the inaugural and mentoring session for female lawyers in the state, assuring swift legal action once the abductors are apprehended.

“It is not for those in the justice system to commence prosecution where people who are considered to have committed an offence,” explained, adding.

“But I assure you that when investigations are concluded and case diaries are sent for advice, prosecution will always follow suit.”

While reiterated the government’s commitment towards improving the living standard of women and children across the state, the commissioner said the government had introduced measures aimed at addressing the plight of women and children.

Some of these measures according to him include quick dispensation of justice on cases affecting women, as well as the domestication of child rights act.

The state lead of the NBA women forum, Dr. Hadiza Ali, said the aim of the programme was to sensitise women on the basic rudiments of the legal profession, as well as to mentor them on the need to be self-reliant.

Mrs Ali, however, called on the state to fund the judiciary to enable it dispense justice promptly.
