- Lagos PDP instructs Jandor to retract claim of party leadership, citing party constitution; Chairman Aivoji refutes Jandor’s assertion
- Jandor’s spokesperson accuses party chairman of betrayal, calls for resignation; chairman yet to respond to accusation
The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has instructed Abdul-Azeez Adeniran, popularly known as Jandor, the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 election, to retract his claim of being the party’s leader in the state.
Jandor had asserted his leadership position during a thank-you gathering with his team at his campaign office, stating that PDP leaders who supported other parties in the last election were no longer members of the party. He reaffirmed his position as the party’s top leader as its flag bearer.
However, in response to Jandor’s statement, the state PDP Chairman, Philip Olabode Aivoji, refuted his claim, asserting that he remains the leader of the party in Lagos State. Aivoji cited Section 22 of the party constitution, emphasizing that the candidate of the party is not listed as a member of the party’s leadership.
The state chairman urged Jandor to retract his statement and issue an apology, describing his assertion as disrespectful and derogatory towards party leaders.
When contacted for comment, the spokesperson for the Jandor Campaign Organisation, Pastor Gbenga Ogunleye, accused the chairman of betraying the party in the previous election. Ogunleye stated that the chairman lacks the integrity to hold his position and should resign.
As of the time of filing this report, the chairman has not responded to the latest accusation.
