The Senate has moved forward with the second reading of a bill to authorise the allocation of N1.1 trillion from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) statutory revenue account.

The bill’s progression to the second reading occurred following its presentation by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC-Ekiti) during Thursday’s plenary session.

Senator Bamidele outlined key provisions of the FCT Appropriation Bill, indicating that N140 billion is designated for personnel expenses, N280 billion for overhead costs, and N726 billion for capital projects.

He emphasized that the budget’s primary focus, from January 1 to December 31, is to enhance service delivery and complete ongoing projects for FCT residents.

Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin (APC-Kano), commended FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, for timely budget presentation, recognizing it as a positive step for the FCT administration.

Senator Jibrin urged swift legislative action on the bill, aligning with the minister’s proposed programs discussed during their meeting.

Senator Ned Nwoko (PDP-Delta) echoed the sentiment for expeditious passage, citing pressing issues within the FCT that necessitate attention.

Similarly, Senator Binos Yaroe (PDP, Adamawa) lauded the performance of the FCT minister, advocating for swift passage to facilitate project execution and service delivery in the FCT.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio assured prompt consideration and passage of the bill to support the FCT minister’s reform agenda for the nation’s capital.

Subsequently, the bill was referred to the Committee on FCT for further legislative scrutiny.
