A commercial bus driver on the University of Ilorin route, who went by the name Lukman, sagged as he drove some students to the school.
WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that the unfortunate event that happened on Friday reportedly left the car’s occupants stunned.
In a widely shared WhatsApp message, a passenger who was present at the scene described how he intervened to save other children and prevent additional harm by taking over the moving bus following the incident.
According to him “Our bus driver just died on the road while driving us from Sanrab to Unilorin. I was sitting in the front but I wasn’t looking up because I was reading the Qur’an on my phone.
“The other person beside me just called my attention to the driver he noticed suddenly slumped, shouting Baba multiple times.
“By the time I looked up, he was already gasping and the bus was drifting away from the road. I had to press the brake, take control of the steering and bring the bus to a halt.
“He was pronounced dead at the School clinic. Everything happened within 30 minutes”, he said.
The deceased colleague, Sulyman Malik, who also confirmed the incident explained that “He greeted me on Thursday about my own recent accident.
“This just shows that this life is vanity. He has since been buried according to Islamic rites. He was a very handsome man and you would think of his death even in the next 30 years”.
Reacting to the incident, Director of Information, University of Ilorin, Mr Kunle Akogun, confirmed the incident, he described it as very unfortunate.
