Lagos man sentenced to life imprisonment for introducing minor to porn

One Nurudeen Nasiru has been sentenced to life in prison for introducing a 13-year-old to pornography.

The convict also sexually assaulted the victim who happens to be his neighbour’s daughter on February 23, 2021, at about 3.45pm

He was said to have committed the offences on Aminu Street, Alapere, Ketu, Lagos, according to government prosecutor.

He was convicted and sentenced on Thursday by Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court.

Three witnesses, a social worker, the survivor, and her father were called during the trial by the State Counsel, Mr Olusola Soneye while the convict testified as a sole witness.

The confessional statement of the convict was tendered as an exhibit by the prosecution.

Justice Soladoye, in her judgment, held that the convict sexually assaulted the survivor through the anus and also introduced her to pornography.

She also held that the prosecution was able to prove beyond reasonable doubt the two counts of defilement and indecent treatment of a child against the convict.

Justice Soladoye said, “Nasiru was a neighbour who goes to the room of the survivor and opens his phone to show her pornographic videos and afterwards will force her to practise what he had shown her on his phone.

“Nasiru, in his confessional statement, admitted to having had sexual intercourse with the survivor.”

The judge further held that the ingredients of the offence of sexual assault by penetration and indecent treatment of a child were thoroughly satisfied under Sections 261 and 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

She, therefore, convicted Nasiru of the two counts preferred against him.

“On count one of sexual assault by penetration, Nasiru is sentenced to life imprisonment.

“On count two of indecent treatment of a child, Nasiru is sentenced to seven years imprisonment.

“The sentence should run concurrently, and his name is to be entered in the Sexual Offenders’ Register maintained by the Lagos State Government.”
