  • The Federal Government plans to expand the suspended Home Grown School Feeding Programme to include basic education upon resumption
  • Dr. Folake Olatunji-David announced the program expansion during the launch of the Create that Change Development Initiative (CCDI) in Abuja

The Federal Government has announced plans to broaden the scope of the suspended Home Grown School Feeding Programme to include basic education, not just limited to primary schools, upon its resumption.

Dr. Folake Olatunji-David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, revealed this during the launch and fundraiser of the Create that Change Development Initiative (CCDI) in Abuja on Saturday.

She commended CCDI for its commitment to addressing critical educational issues and advancing child development, aligning with the vision of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“We are aware of the homegrown program that is currently on hold. Upon its return, it will be enhanced to cover basic education, not just a segment of primary school as before,” Dr. Olatunji-David stated.

She emphasized the importance of proper planning to ensure effective programme implementation once directives are received, whether it covers primary school or basic education.

Mrs. Sharon Ayeni, the Executive Director of CCDI, highlighted the organization’s vision to positively impact Nigeria by addressing pressing challenges and uplifting those in need, particularly through initiatives like the Enhancing Nutrition, Exercise, and Reading Initiative (ENERI).

Dr. Fidelis Elom, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of CCDI, underscored Nigeria’s urgent need for initiatives like ENERI to address issues such as youth unemployment and conflict-related challenges, expressing optimism about the potential for tangible change in the lives of Nigerian youth through such initiatives.
