- The National Judicial Council warns retired judges of fraudulent schemes promising to expedite retirement benefits in exchange for money
- NJC disassociates itself from such activities and urges retired judges to report fraudulent calls to the council’s pension department
The National Judicial Council (NJC) has issued a cautionary alert regarding fraudulent schemes targeting retired judicial officers nationwide.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the council’s director of information, Soji Oye, the NJC has disassociated itself from the activities of fraudsters and advised retired judges to be vigilant and avoid falling prey to such scams.
The NJC revealed that fraudsters have been contacting retired judicial officers via phone, claiming to assist them in expediting the processing of their retirement benefits in exchange for various sums of money.
In a portion of the statement, the NJC emphasized: “The attention of the National Judicial Council has been drawn to the incessant phone calls being made to retired judicial officers by some unscrupulous individuals demanding payments to fast-track the processing of their retirement benefits.”
The council clarified its stance, stating unequivocally that it does not solicit funds from any judicial officer to expedite retirement benefit payments. Retired judicial officers and the public are urged to disregard such calls and report them to the council’s pension department for appropriate action.
The public is advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant against fraudulent activities targeting retired judges. The NJC is committed to taking necessary measures to address such misconduct.
