The non-teaching staff of the Federal University of Lafia has joined the one-week nationwide strike announced by the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the national organisation of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).
To make sure that none of their members could enter the school’s campuses, the heads of the several unions convened at the main entrances to the launch and permanent locations in Lafia.
The University workers were seen displaying placards with messages that included “Pay Us Our Four Months Withheld Salaries,” “Non-Teaching Staff of Universities are Equally Important,” and “Refusing to Pay Us Our Salaries is an Act of Victimization.”
The Chairman of SSANU, Federal University of Lafia branch, Comrade Daniel Dajen, while briefing journalists, said they had resolved to comply fully with the directive to embark on a one-week nationwide strike due to the non-payment of their four months withheld salaries.
Dajen called on the teaching staff of the university to remain steadfast in the course of the struggle and stay away from their duty posts until further directives.
