- When the victims raised an alarm, the police intervened, intercepting and arresting the suspects
The FCT Police Command arrested Gabriel Elihu, a dismissed soldier disguised in military attire, for attempting to kidnap two victims traveling from H-Medix to Gishiri village on March 17.
According to The Whistler, Elihu, residing in Apo Mechanic Village, and his gang used an unregistered Toyota Hilux to stalk and rob the victims.
When the victims raised an alarm, the police intervened, intercepting and arresting the suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, disclosed that they recovered a black Toyota Hilux with Reg No. NBB 03 AH (Nasarawa), along with a jackknife and military gear.
Elihu confessed that a serving military friend introduced him to the criminal activity of extorting money while disguised as a soldier.
He said, “It was my friend that introduced me to it that very March 17. I had even forgotten about this uniform because if you check the uniform, you will see that this is not the recent one. This is the one they gave everyone during the election eight years back.
“He told us that if they settle (speaking about the March 17 incident), he will give us something to ‘hold body’, that is how the thing happened.”
The dismissed soldier disclosed that it was the first time he participated in such an act, and regretted his decision.
The FCT police, who also arrested the driver of the Hilux, assured that operatives are on a trail for the serving personnel, who is at large, noting that the arrested suspects will be charged in court soon.
