- The captives were abducted by gunmen suspected to be armed herders in between Sobe and Agric Farm
At least ten persons have been abducted in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State by armed non-state actors terrorising the southern state.
The captives were abducted by gunmen suspected to be armed herders in between Sobe and Agric Farm along Sobe-Ifon road on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
A source, who is familiar with the incident, told newsmen that among the kidnapped victims was the wife of the community youth leader, Mrs Irouje Omian.
The source said she was kidnapped on the road when the gunmen ambushed them and whisked them away.
He disclosed that not less than 10 persons made up of five men and five women were kidnapped by suspected herdsmen and their collaborators.
“Last year 12 persons were kidnapped on this road. This made the Federal Government establish a mini barrack in the area. The mini barrack has not stopped kidnapping in the area,” he said.
The Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the incident, however, said three persons were kidnapped.
“On March 20, Police received information that hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers attacked road users coming from Ifon to Sobe by Agric Farm along Sobe-Ifon Road in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.
“The information gathered there revealed that two women who were on a motorcycle and a driver of a Ford carrying sachet water were kidnapped by the hoodlums,” he stated.
He, however, stated that police operatives have begun combing the bush operations to ensure that the victims are rescued unhurt
