- Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai engages with political figures, fueling speculation about his future political aspirations
- El-Rufai met with SDP leaders and other politicians, sparking discussions about a potential presidential bid in 2027
Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai continues to engage with political figures from various parties, sparking discussions about his future political deeds.
El-Rufai recently convened with the national chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Musa Gabam, followed by a meeting at Senator Abubakar Gada’s residence in Abuja, where SDP leaders and others were present.
The attendees were APC’s Oyo State gubernatorial candidate, Senator Teslim Folarin, PDP’s Senator Nazif Suleiman from Bauchi State, and political heavyweight Alhaji Aminu DanAgundi from Kano State.
This gathering, after El-Rufai’s Ramadan iftar event with notable figures, including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, stirred social media speculations regarding El-Rufai’s potential presidential bid in 2027.
However, El-Rufai’s media adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, dismissed these speculations, attributing them to an “unhealthy obsession with politics.” Adekeye emphasized El-Rufai’s transparency, stating that any significant political decisions would be publicly announced.
Despite Adekeye’s assertions, rumours persist about a unique political merger ahead of the 2027 elections, distinct from previous consolidation efforts led by figures like Atiku Abubakar and Prof. Pat Utomi’s NCFront.
Adekeye urged the public to disregard these speculations, emphasizing El-Rufai’s commitment to open dialogue and transparent decision-making.
