Plateau State

The Plateau State Police Command has dispatched officers to Mikang and Langtang local government areas following a deadly clash between the Montol and Taroh ethnic groups over land disputes, resulting in nine fatalities.

DSP Alfred Alabo, spokesperson for the state’s Police Command, credited the swift police response with preventing further escalation of the violence, which saw homes and livestock targeted.

Alabo stated, “The CP has also ordered the relocation of the Area Commander, Langtang and Commander 66PMF to the troubled areas.”

Plateau State governor Caleb Mutfwang has urged security agencies to pursue the perpetrators and their backers for legal repercussions, underscoring the detrimental impact of such incidents on the state’s peace-building efforts.

Mutfwang called upon traditional, community, and religious leaders and stakeholders to facilitate dialogue for a peaceful resolution of conflicts.

Senator Simon Lalong, representing Plateau South senatorial district, echoed these sentiments, advocating for a thorough investigation into the clash’s underlying causes and emphasizing the importance of prioritizing peace and dialogue over violence in conflict resolution.
